An Alumni Community For Every School Assessment

With the support of Future First Global in Partnership with YOCEL, an assessment was launched to gather information on the existence of alumni associations, their engagement with their schools, the practices carried out by them, the effectiveness of these Networks in the respective pilot schools and communities etc. Based on the feedback gathered from   the field, it shows crystal clear by our various interviewees that, these networks do exist but most of them, if not all, are less effective and inefficient due to lack of capacity to manage the network. The focus for most alumni out of the following engagements i.e. Mentoring, Tutoring, Career Counseling, fundraising, school board governor, Role Model etc, is actually on Mentoring and Tutoring.
80% of outgoing high School students are willing and prepare to give back to their schools when the opportunity is provider. Either by serving as a Teacher aid, coach, librarian, mentors and etc. The assessment also shows that 90% of students have not had the opportunity to meet or discuss with their former students.

This survey was conducted in St. Paul Bridge with over 89 youths and children’s ranging from out of school, service providers to High school dropout and the survey is based on their true life stories, experiences and career path.
We interviewed 32 male, 51 female, 4 children and 2 service providers who are either high school dropout or out of school children. We see this report as a true bender and sharpener of youth prospective and it is a driving force that has erased the traditional notions that youth are intolerance and lazy, but the fact is that everyone needs to do what they desire and not what society wants them do or to be.
The rationale behind this survey is to actually hear from beneficiary of alternative education and understand what programs are interesting to them and how will they want it to be implemented. During the course of the survey, we realize that sincerely, most of the out of school youth are not willing to return to school because of their age and experience and they believe that receiving some kind of alternative education is the best way out.
